Derrell was born in Pasco Washington in 1971 and moved to the Sequim area in 1980. He graduated from Sequim High School in 1990 and shortly after began volunteering with the local fire department. In 1993 Derrell became a full time firefighter with Clallam County Fire District #3 where he continues to serve as the district Medical/Safety Officer.
Derrell was led to the Lord under the shepherd care of Pastor Dove of Sequim Baptist Church where he was a member of Royal Ambassadors, and was baptized at the age of 12. Throughout high school he often participated in youth activities with close friends at Dungeness Community Church.
In 2002 Derrell and Rachel King were married and he became a committed member of Fairview Bible Church. Derrell and Rachel are the proud parents of three wonderful daughters. It was after the birth of their oldest daughter that retired Pastor Dave Bryant, in a simple yet profound manner, encouraged Derrell to accept and fulfill his divinely appointed responsibility to become the spiritual leader of his home and family. Over the next year, as Derrell diligently studied the word of God, he sensed the Lord calling him into a deeper commitment. This deeper commitment would move him to begin seminary studies through Berean School of the Bible.
In 2006 the Elder Board of Fairview Bible appointed Derrell as Associate Pastor under the leadership and guidance of Senior Pastor Jack Clapp. In 2008, after 17 years of faithfully shepherding the flock of Fairview Bible, Pastor Jack retired from the ministry. In January of 2010 the pulpit nominating committee recommended Derrell for the office of Senior Pastor. After prayerful consideration, Derrell and Rachel reverently accepted this call and the membership confirmed their appointment by congregational approval in February.
Derrell's heart and passion is to glorify God by growing people in their vital relationship with Jesus Christ and His people. He is committed to preaching the word, encourages fellowship opportunities and growth through small group bible studies, and strongly believes followers of Christ are called to an active faith; to be lived out as the salt of the earth, flavoring life with the taste of Jesus, and by being light in the world, illuminating the love of God, displayed before the whole world, on the cross at Calvary.
